Camden, NJ (9/23/10) - Sophomore outside hitter Olivia Murphy (Somerdale, NJ/Sterling) rallied the Rutgers University-Camden volleyball team from a 13-7 deficit in the third and final set with a kill and four straight service points and the Lady Raptors went on to sweep Montclair State University, 3-0, in a New Jersey Athletic Conference match here Thursday night.
Rutgers-Camden won by scores of 25-20, 25-13 and 25-21 to post its first victory ever against Montclair State. The Red Hawks had won the first eight matches in the series, dating back to 2002.
The Lady Raptors improve to 6-5 overall, snapping a four-match losing streak, and evened their record at 1-1 in NJAC play. Montclair State falls to 2-14 and 1-2.
Rutgers-Camden received 10 kills, three assists, three aces and 10 digs from junior outside hitter Katherine Crosby (Marlton, NJ/Cherokee), while Murphy added three kills, one ace and two digs.
Sophomore setter Stephanie Miller (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill East) collected 26 assists, three aces and four digs for the Raptors. Sophomore outside hitter Rebecca Brown (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill East) had seven kills and 10 digs, while sophomore libero/defensive specialist Catherine Tadeja (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill East) notched 10 digs and two aces.
Freshman middle hitter Chelsea Schmotzer (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill West) added six kills for Rutgers-Camden.
