Jersey City, NJ – The Montclair State baseball team suffered its second straight loss on Wendesday as the Red Hawks fell to New Jersey City University 15-3 at the Thomas M. Gerrity Athletic Complex. The game was originally scheduled for Thursday, however an impending rainstorm pushed the start of the home-and-home series a day earlier.
Montclair, which will face the Gothic Knights on Friday, April 29 at Yogi Berra Stadium at 3:30 pm, fell to 15-13 overall, 7-6 in the NJAC.
NJCU (7-27, 2-13 NJAC) snapped an 11-game losing streak to the Red Hawks defeating MSU for the first time since April 22, 2004. The Gothic Knights scored a run each in the second and third innings before Montclair State got on the board in the fourth as
MICHAEL BOGGI (Towaco, NJ / Montville) homered for the second consecutive day cutting the lead in half at 2-1. It was Boggi's fifth home run of the season.
But the Gothic Knights broke the game open with a six-run fourth inning to take an 8-1 lead. Montclair State did get two runs back in the fifth on RBI singles by Matt Moreno (Park Ridge, NJ / Park Ridge) and
ANDREW HIMMELFARB (Upper Nyack, NY / Nyack). New Jersey City though answered with a run in the sixth and four more in the seventh to take a 13-3 lead.
NJCU collected 20 hits in the game and took advantage of three Montclair State errors.
Himmelfarb and
ANTHONY BOWENS (Nutley, NJ / Nutley) had two hits apiece for the Red Hawks, who had seven in the contest.
