Montclair Holds Off Rensselser for Fourth Straight Victory

Troy, NY – Junior righthander PAUL CICCAZZO (Staten Island, NY / Tottenville) tossed seven shutout innings while senior centerfielder MICHAEL BOGGI (Towaco, NJ / Montville) belted a two-run homer as Montclair State won its fourth straight beating Rensselaer, 7-4 at Robison Field on Wednesday afternoon.

The game was originally scheduled for Monday, but was postponed due to rain. Montclair, which scored the first seven runs of the game, improves to 10-5 overall with the win.

Ciccazzo improved to 3-1 on the season as he allowed just four hits, all singles, striking out four. Lefthander SEAN HILLE (Edison, NJ / St. Joseph's (Metuchen)) struck out the side in the eighth inning before JAKE CAMPBELL (Sayreville, NJ / Sayreville War) finished up in the ninth.

Montclair State took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first as they manufactured a run. JAY BIONDE (Pompton Plains, NJ / Pequannock) singled with one out, and stole second with two down before scoring on KEVIN BOND's (Cedar Grove, NJ / Cedar Grove) misplayed ground ball.

Ciccazzo made the lead hold up until his teammates could provide some scoring which MSU got in the sixth inning. ANTHONY BOWENS (Nutley, NJ / Nutley) singled to open the inning and Bond and Boggi walked to load the bases. CODY PACE (Milltown, NJ / Spotswood) lofted a sacrifice fly to score Bowens and pinch-hitter MIKE ERCOLANO (Vernon, NJ / Vernon) added an RBI single as Montclair went up 3-0.

The Red Hawks would add three more in the seventh, two coming off the bat of Boggi, who launched his second home run of the season.

Montclair State's final run came in the ninth as Tim Byron (East Hanover, NJ / East Hanover) created a run on his own. Byron walked to open the inning and moved around the bases the rest of the way on three wild pitches.

Rensselaer mounted a furious rally in the bottom of the ninth cutting the lead to 7-4 and had the bases loaded before Campbell got a ground out at first for the final out.

Montclair State had seven hits in the game.

The Red Hawks got right back to work on Thursday, April 7 as they host Ramapo College at Yogi Berra Stadium beginning at 3:30 pm.
