Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Second-Half Surge Pushes Women's Lacrosse into Skyline Conference Championship Game, 19-9

Conlon Sets Single-Season Point Mark as Red Hawks Face Farmingdale for Championship

Montclair, NJ – Junior attack Kailee Beal (Succasunna, NJ, Roxbury) scored three of her four goals in the second half and also finished with three assists as second-seeded Montclair State pulled away over the final 30 minutes for a 19-9 win against third-seeded St. Joseph's College (LI) in the semifinals of the Skyline Conference Tournament on Wednesday evening.

Freshman Tierney Conlon (Caldwell, NJ, Caldwell) finished with three goals, four assists and set the MSU single-season record for points scored as the Red Hawks (12-4) advance to the championship game on Saturday, April 28 at top-seeded Farmingdale State with the winner earning the conference's automatic berth into the NCAA Division III Women's Lacrosse Championship. Earlier this season, MSU fell to the Rams 13-7 at Sprague Field on March 24.

Montclair, which has won the last two Skyline Conference Championships, is seeking its sixth title overall since joining the league in 2006. The Red Hawks have only lost three games to conference foes during that time – all to Farmingdale State as the Rams defeated MSU in the 2009 regular season and tournament title contest and again this year.

Freshman attack Lisa Terry (Manorville, NY / Eastport-South Manor) had four goals for the Golden Eagles, who fell to 8-8 and making their first appearance in the league tournament.

Terry scored twice in the first six minutes as St. Joseph's led 2-1 before the Red Hawks scored three straight goals, including KRISSA HENDERSON's tally with 10:02 left as Montclair led 4-2. Kelly Schoneveld (Denville, NJ, Morris Knolls), who finished with four goals, extended the lead to 5-3 and after an Eagles goal, Cora Delfini (New Egypt, NJ, New Egypt) scored with 6:12 remaining restoring the lead to 6-4.

Beal would score her first goal off a free-position shot with 5:34 left however goals by Caitlynn Webber (Eastport, NY / Eastport-South Manor) and Jackie Myers (Coram, NY/Patchogue-Medford) trimmed the MSU lead to 7-6 at the break.

Montclair State then exploded with the first seven goals of the half. Beal had two goals in the run and Conlon two as well with the second at 8:16 of the period giving her 98 points for the season. She broke the single-season mark of 97 set by Cathy Homiek in 2003.

Nicole Lyman (West Babylon, NY / West Babylon) stopped the MSU run with a goal but the Red Hawks added five more after that, the last two from Schoneveld as the Montclair lead was 19-7 with 13:30 left.
Beal had three assists and seven draw controls while Delfini finished with four goals and two assists.

Maggie Fallon
(Cherry Hill, NJ, Camden Catholic)
and Kelcie Wavra (Gillette, NJ, Watchung Hills) recorded six ground balls apiece with Delfini and Schoneveld collecting five each. Junior goalkeeper Tiffani Henderson (Landing, NJ, Roxbury) stopped four shots.

Erin O'Connor (Nesconset, NY / St. Anthony's) made nine saves for the Golden Eagles with Colleen Fitzsimmons (Commack, NY / Commack) getting two in the final 15 minutes. Lyman had eight draws, five ground balls and three caused turnovers.
