Montclair, NJ - Freshman
Arielle Galgano (Cedar Run, NJ, Southern Regional) and senior
Stephanie Lewis (Garwood, NJ, Arthur L. Johnson) each scored a goal as second-ranked Montclair State knocked off No.8 The College of New Jersey, 2-1 at Sprague Field on Friday evening.
The Red Hawks (12-1, 3-1 NJAC) won their second straight as they defeated the Lions for the second straight year. It is the first time that MSU has recorded back-to-back wins against TCNJ since the 1979 and 1980 campaigns.
Galgano put the Red Hawks on the board at the 18:49 mark of the first half as she finished off a feed from
Danielle Butrico (South Plainfield). Montclair would take that one-goal lead into halftime and extended to 2-0 in the second half as Lewis scored from Tafro at 58:03.Â
From there the Red Hawks defense would do the rest keeping the Lions off the board until 22 seconds remaining when Mikayla Cimilluca scored off a rebound of her own shot.
Sophomore goalkeeper
Rebecca Brattole (Arthur L. Johnson) made six saves as Montclair also got a pair of defensive saves from Tafro.
Montclair State returns to action on Wednesday, October 16 as it hosts Drew University at Sprague Field beginning at 7:00 pm.
