Montclair, NJ - Senior midfielder
Dan Mendoza (Hackensack, NJ, Hackensack) recorded his first career hat trick and became the sixth player in Montclair State history to reach 100 career points as the seventh-ranked Red Hawks rolled to a 6-0 win over Yeshiva University at MSU Soccer Park on Friday afternoon.
Sophomore
Lucas Terci (Union, NJ, Union) picked up two assists as the Red Hawks improved to 13-2-2 with the matinee victory over the Maccabees (2-10).
Mendoza scored the first three goals of the game as Montclair did all of its scoring in the first half. Mendoza did all the dame in a span of 5:26 netting the first goal on a header at the 17:30 mark off a cross from
Trey Leggett (Stockton, NJ, Hunterdon Central). Terci set up the next two goals with the latter coming at 22:56 of the period.
The third goal gave Mendoza exactly 100 points for his career as he became the sixth player overll and the first since Ryan Morgan (102 points) in 2006 to accomplish the mark. Mendoza also increased his career goal total to 41 which is also sixth-best in program history.
Mike Horan (Bridgewater, NJ, Bridgewater-Raritan)n,
Sam Katz (Livingston, NJ, Livingston) and
John Starner (Manahawkin, NJ, Southern Regional) closed out the half for the Red Hawks with goals.
Freshman
Michael Gonzalez (Kenilworth, NJ, Union Catholic) played the first 35 minutes before giving way to
Kevin Lynch (Cinnaminson, NJ, Cinnaminson) who wrapped up Montclair's ninth shutout of the year.
The Red Hawks now turn their attention to Saturday (Oct. 25) as it hosts Richard Stockton at MSU Soccer Park beginning at 6:00 pm. Prior to the game Montclair will honor its four senior members - Mendoza,
Will O'Connor (Wyckoff, NJ, Ramapo),
Matt Slattery (Newtown, CT, Newtown) and
Jason Zablow (Bordentown, NJ, Bordentown).
