Volleyball Four-Match Winning Streak Snapped by Richard Stockton

Red Hawks Fall to Ospreys

Montclair, NJ – Senior Nicole Serekian (Mahwah, NJ / Mahwah) slammed 21 kills and did not commit an error in 29 attempts as Richard Stockton extended its winning streak to 10 with a three-set sweep of Montclair State at the Panzer Athletic Center on Thursday evening.

Stockton won the match by scores of 25-20, 25-17 and 25-20.

Sophomore Macy Schwartz (Mahwah, NJ / Mahwah) added nine kills and three blocks as the Ospreys upped their record to 15-5 on the season while remaining perfect in the NJAC at 4-0 with their 27th consecutive regular-season conference victory.

Freshman Courtney Matlock (Jackson, NJ, Jackson Memorial) had nine kills for Montclair State, the last NJAC team to beat Stockton in the regular season. Montclair, which had its four-match winning streak snapped, defeated the Ospreys in four sets on October 29, 2009.

The Ospreys hit a solid .387 for the match committing just nine errors total in 93 attempts. They were led by NJAC Player of the Week Serekian, who slammed seven kills in the opening set as Richard Stockton, which hit .481 in the set, trailed 4-2 before rattling off the next six points behind the serving of Kasey Hennecke (Fair Lawn, NJ / Fair Lawn) for an 8-4 advantage. Montclair got the next three to get within 8-7 however Serekian added three kills over the next six points giving the Ospreys a 13-8 cushion. The lead would grow to 20-12 and a kill by Idi Uffen (Williamstown, NJ / Williamstown) made the score 24-18. MSU would hold off set point twice but an attack error by Montclair gave Stockton a 25-20 win and a 1-0 lead in the match.

Stockton would never trail in the second set and jumped out to a 6-1 lead which later became 17-7 before the Red Hawks climbed back in getting to 20-15. A kill by Ali Giordano (Waldwick, NJ / Waldwick) and consecutive attack errors made it 23-15. A service error and block by Lindsay Schuele (Sparta, NJ / Sparta) finished off the set as Stockton won 25-17 and led 2-0.

The Ospreys hit .486 in the final set with Serekian going 9-of-12 while Hennecke and Schuele each added three kills. Stockton grabbed an 8-1 lead and never looked back as Serekian finished off the match with a pair of kills for the 25-20 win.

Sophomore setter Shannon Clark (Folsom, PA / Ridley) had 28 assists and eight digs while Schuele added five kills, two aces and a match-high 12 digs.
