No. 6/9 Women's Soccer Wins Again as Red Hawks Blank Eastern, 4-0

Red Hawks Set New Program Record with 12th Straight Win

Montclair, NJ – The Montclair State women's soccer team established a new program record for consecutive victories as the No. 6/9 Red Hawks scored three times in the first half en route to a 4-0 win over Eastern University at MSU Soccer Park on Wednesday evening.

Freshman Erin Sullivan (Bridgewater, NJ, Bridgewatwer-Raritan), junior Kaila Fasano (Westwood, NJ, Westwood) and Melanie Greco (Bridgewater, NJ, Bridgewater-Raritan)and senior Jessica Kiniery (Branchburg, NJ, Somerville) each netted a goal as the Red Hawks improved to 12-0 on the year. MSU picked up their first win in three tries against the Eagles as the two met for the first time since 2008.

Sophomore goalkeeper Elayna Simpson (Dover, DE / Caesar Rodney) had nine saves for the Eagles (2-8-1) who dropped their third straight contest.

Montclair, off to the best start in program history, surpassed the record for longest winning streak set in 2000 when the Red Hawks won 11 in a row en route to capturing the ECAC Metro Championship.

Montclair State, which leads Division III in goals against average and shutout percentage, picked up its 11th shutout of the season. The Red Hawks held the Eagles without a shot in game, the second straight game and fourth time this season that MSU, which has allowed 53 shots in 2013, has held its opponent without a shot in a game.

With the defense clamping down on Eastern the only goal Montclair would need came from Sullivan, who scored for the second straight game. Fasano played a ball from the left wing into the box where Sullivan finished off the pass for her fourth of the year at the 11:29 mark.

Fasano would get one of her own a little more than three minutes later as she put back her own rebound after Simpson had stopped the first attempt.

Kiniery gave Montclair a 3-0 lead with 10:28 to play in the opening period with her team-leading seventh goal. The Red Hawks took that lead into the break and scored once more in the second on Greco's sixth of the year with 6:10 to play.

Junior goalkeeper Gina Policastro (East Brunswick, NJ, East Brunswick) earned her eighth shutout of the season.

Montclair State returns to action on Saturday, October 12 as it hosts Rowan University in a Homecoming Day matchup at MSU Soccer Park beginning at 12:00 pm. Eastern is also in action that day hosting DeSales University at the same time.
