Montclair, NJ – Freshman outside hitter
Melissa Terpstra (Midland Park, NJ, Midland Park) matched a season-high with 22 kills and added eight digs as fourth-seeded Montclair State knocked off fifth-seeded Ramapo College 3-0 in the first round of the 2013 New Jersey Athletic Conference Volleyball Championship on Tuesday evening.
Senior outside hitter
Marta Topor (Bogota, NJ, Bogota) added 11 kills as the Red Hawks (19-11) advance to the semifinals on Thursday, November 7 against top-seeded Richard Stockton in Galloway Township, NJ. It will be the second meeting between the two this season with the Ospreys posted a 3-0 victory in Montclair on October 3.
Richard Stockton has won the last five NJAC titles and has not lost to a conference foe since October 2009 when Montclair defeated the Ospreys 3-1.
Freshman outside hitter Rachel Selmore (Morristown, NJ / Morristown) had 12 kills for Ramapo, which fell to 16-16 with its second loss to MSU this season and second against the Red Hawks in the NJAC Tournament. Ramapo also fell to Montclair 3-1 in the opening round of the 2006 NJAC Tournament.
In the opening set, the team were tied a 7-7 before a three-point run by the Roadrunners gave the visitors a 10-7 lead it would maintain most of the way. Ramapo led 24-20 before the Red Hawks ripped off five straight points, including two kills by Terpstra to tie the match at 24-24. An attack error gave MSU the lead however the Red Hawks gave it right back forging a 25-25 tie. The teams traded points before an MSU attack error made the score 27-26 in favor of Ramapo.
Rebecca Matasker (Washington Township, NJ, Westwood) got the set even again and an attack error by Ramapo put MSU in front 28-27 before Terpstra closed it out with her ninth kill of the opening set for the 29-27 victory.
Montclair State used that momentum to build a 9-2 lead in the second set on an attack error by the Roadrunners. Terpstra, who had six kills in the set made it 21-10 before back-to-back kills from Topor on the final two points gave MSU a 2-0 lead in the match with the 25-13 victory.
The third set would be much closer with nine ties the last coming at 14-14 before a kill and ace by Terpstra on consecutive plays put MSU ahead for good. Ramapo remained two points behind before consecutive errors gave Montclair a 24-20 advantage. Sara Pendleton (Rutherford, NJ / Rutherford) held off one match point however Terpstra sealed the match with her 22nd kill as the Red Hawks won the final set 25-21.

Angela Campo (Washington Township, NJ, Westwood) had 39 assists and eight digs while libero
Kaitlyn Irwin (Cranford, NJ, Cranford) and senior
Kimberly Butrico (Cresskill, NJ, Cresskill) had 28 and 14 digs, respectively.
Sara Girgus (Green Brook, NJ, Watchung Hills) added six kills while Matasker added five and
Courtney LePore (Deer Park, NY, Deer Park) four kills.
Emily Guzman (Clifton, NJ / Clifton) had six kills while Natalia Saavedra (Brick, NJ / Union Catholic) chipped in with five and 14 digs. Kaitlin Mac Iver (Hillsdale, NJ / Pascack Valley) had 30 assists and eight digs with Pendleton finishing with seven kills. Libero Emily Harris (East Brunswick, NJ / East Brunswick) had 11 digs.
