Wheaton, IL – The Montclair State women's soccer team was set to take on the No. 3 ranked Wheaton College Thunder on Friday in its season opener however it was another type of thunder that proved too much for both teams.
The Red Hawks, ranked No. 23 in the nation, and Wheaton were scoreless with 13:39 remaining in the first half when thunderstorms in the area forced the game to be halted. After waiting more two hours to resume, the game was canceled.
Wheaton had outshot Montclair State 7-2 before the stoppage with MSU junior goalkeeper Gina Policastro (East Brunswick, NJ, East Brunswick) making four saves.
The Red Hawks will play their second "Opening Day Game" on Saturday, August 31 as they face Carleton at 3:00 pm Eastern time.
