Springfield, MA – Senior midfielder Dan Mendoza (Hackensack, NJ, Hackensack) and freshman forward Mike Olla (Bloomfield, NJ, St. Benedict's Prep) each scored once as sixth-ranked Montclair State knocked off host Western New England 2-0 in the championship game of the Soccer City Shootout on Sunday afternoon.
Olla was named the Offensive Most Valuable Player of the Tournament while junior Jon Krzysik (Clifton, NJ, Paramus Catholic) earned Defensive MVP honors as the Red Hawks moved to 2-0 on the young season.
For the second straight day, MSU dominated its opponent holding a 27-10 advantage in shots. Still the game remained scoreless until the 37:53 mark when Mendoza took a pass from sophomore Trey Leggett (Stockton, NJ, Hunterdon Central) before finding the back of the net giving Montclair a 1-0 lead.
