Glassboro, NJ - The Montclair State University men's soccer team won 4-2 at Rowan University on Wednesday night. It was the first conference game for both teams.
The Red Hawks are undefeated with a 6-0 record. This week, Montclair State was ranked second in the South Atlantic Region and 11th in the nation. The Profs are 3-2 overall.
In the second half, the Red Hawks went up 3-1 after goals from forward
Mike Olla (Bloomfield, NJ, St. Benedict's Prep) at 61:47 and midfielder
Jesse Shea (Marlton, NJ, Cherokee) at 75:07. Rowan pulled within one when back Nick Bolton (jr. Dover, DE/Dover) scored with an assist from back Dave Schwartz (s. Point Pleasant NJ/Point Pleasant Boro). Olla scored his second goal at 87:23 on a breakaway.   Â
Midfielder Shane Kohler (jr. Flemington, NJ/Hunterdon Central Reg.) put the Profs on the scoreboard first at 20:42. He headed in a cross from forward/midfielder Dylan Smith (sr. Hamilton, NJ/Steinert). With 3:54 left in the first half, forward
Pablo Zegarra (Moorestown, NJ, Moorestown) tied the score with an unassisted goal.
The Red Hawks registered 19 total shots and the Profs had six. Montclair State goalie
Kevin Lynch (Cinnaminson, NJ, Cinnaminson) made one save and Rowan goalkeeper Ryan Gill (sr. West Deptford, NJ/West Deptford) stopped three shots.
Montclair State returns to action on Monday, September 16 as the Red Hawks host City College of New York at MSU Soccer Park. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 pm.
