No. 22 Women's Soccer Rolls Past Purchase in Home Opener, 9-0

Bernardini Two Goals as Red Hawks Go to 2-0

Montclair, NJ – Sophomore Kendel Bernardini (Elmer, NJ, Schalick) scored a pair of goals while junior Kaila Fasano (Westwood, NJ, Westwood) and sophomore Martina Landeka (Westfield, NJ, Westfield) each had a goal and assist leading No. 22 Montclair State to a 9-0 win over Purchase College in the Red Hawks' home opener on Wednesday evening .

Senior Jessica Kiniery (Branchburg, NJ, Somerville) also had a goal and assist for the Red Hawks (2-0) who scored six times in the first half while improving to 2-0 on the young season.

MSU scored three times in the first 17:43 of the contest, including two in a span of 71 seconds. Landeka got the scoring going at the 11:37 mark, heading in a crossing pass from Fasano into the right corner of the net for a 1-0 Montclair State lead.  Sophomore Janae Geonnetti (Mount Laurel, NJ, Paul VI) made it 2-0 with a breakaway goal, her first of the year.

Landeka setup the first career goal by Jennie Hornstra at 17:43 as the freshman drove shot from the right side of the box past the goalkeeper making the score 3-0 in favor of the Red Hawks.

Junior Francesca Gibson (Cape May, NJ, Lower Cape May Regional) pushed the lead to four goals at 27:14 and Bernardini's first tally of the contest made it 5-0 with 8:19 to go before halftime. Kiniery registered the final goal of the half with 53 seconds left on a shot from the top of the box.

Fasano, sophomore Stefanie Gomes (Kearny, NJ, Kearny) and Bernardini each had goals in the second half to complete the scoring for MSU.

Junior Gina Policastro (East Brunswick, NJ, East Brunswick) and freshman Meghan Calcaterra (Madison, NJ, Madison) each played a scoreless half as Montclair posted its second straight shutout. The Red Hawk defense was dominating not allowing a shot by the Panthers (0-3).

Montclair State is back in action on Saturday, September 7 hosting Centenary College as the MSU Soccer Park beginning at 1:00 pm.
