th-ranked Montclair State scored four times in the first 17 minutes en route to a 5-1 victory at Stevens on Wednesday evening.
Sophomore
Gianna Moglino (Holmdel, NJ, Holmdel) collected a goal and assist as the Red Hawks bounced back from their loss to third-ranked Middlebury College on Sunday to improve to 8-2 on the season.
Montclair dominated the Ducks (4-7) in the first half outshooting Stevens 18-4 with all four goals coming in a span of inside seven minutes. Moglino got the ball rolling at 10:04 with her sixth goal of the season off a penalty corner driving a shot in from the top-left of the circle.
Johnston added to the lead 95 seconds later finishing off a feed from Struss, who then made it a 3-0 advantage at the 14:34 mark deflecting in a shot by Moglino from 12 yards out. Johnston capped the scoring with her second of the game and eighth of the season as Montclair took a four-goal lead into halftime.
Struss would account for the final MSU goal 2:07 into the second half scoring on an unassisted tally for her team-leading 10th goal of the year.
Stevens would avert the shutout with 10 seconds remaining in the contest as Victoria Alvarez connected on her ninth goal of the season.
Rebecca Brattole (Clark, NJ, Arthur L. Johnson) made a pair of saves for the Red Hawks, who finished with a 31-7 advantage in shots.
The Red Hawks return to action on Friday, October 3 traveling to local rival William Paterson for a 7:00 pm NJAC mathcup in Wayne, NJ.
