Montclair, NJ – On Senior Night, it was Montclair State's two seniors that led the way as the Red Hawks swept past New Jersey City in their NJAC regular-season finale at the Panzer Athletic Center on Tuesday evening.

ERIKA GERNER posted seven kills, four service aces and eight digs while setter
ANGELA CAMPO added 31 assists and three kills lifting MSU to a 25-9, 25-9, 25-14 win over the Gothic Knights. Montclair improved to 22-7, tying the single-season record for victories set in 2007 and equaled in 2012.
MSU also finished 5-3 in the NJAC and will be the No. 5 seed and will face fourth-seeded Ramapo in the first round of the NJAC Tournament on Tuesday, November 4 in Mahwah. The Red Hawks fell to the Roadrunners in four sets on September 30.
Falling behind 2-0 in the first set, Montclair ripped off seven straight points, the last six behind the serving of Gerner, who fired an ace for the final point in the run. A kill by Campo made the score 12-4 and a kill by
MELISSA TERPSTRA extended the lead to 19-6. Gerner added one more kill in the opening set making the score 23-7 and closed out the set with another ace as MSU took the first set 25-9.
Another run early in the second set staked Montclair State an 8-2 lead on a kill by
COURTNEY LEPORE and an ace from
ELISE BRACKETT coupled by another kill by LePore pushed Montclair's lead to 13-3.
SAMANTHA SZURA served five straight points with the last coming on a kill by Gerner giving MSU a 20-6 advantage. Gerner posted two more kills, including the final point of the set as Montclair went in front 2-0 with the identical 25-9 victory.
The third set saw the Gothic Knights (5-23, 0-8 NJAC) score the first four points. However the Red Hawks chipped away at the deficit tying the set a 9-9 on a kill by
ALLYSSA ANGEL. After the teams traded points, Montclair began to pull away with a six-point run, the final two points on kills by Angel and
JORDANA NICHOLAS. MSU led 20-14 before reeling off the final five points to close out the match.
REBECCA MATASKER and
NIKKI SENOPOULOS had back-to-back kills for the final points.
Terpstra, LePore and Senopoulos each finished with four kills for MSU, which hit .405 for the match committing just eight errors in 74 attempts (38 kills). Brackett finished with three aces while Szura and
LILY SCANZILLO had five digs apiece.

Montclair State closes out its 2014 regular seas this weekend at Stevens in the New York Regional Challenge. The Red Hawks will face University of Rochester and RIT on Friday, October 31 before taking on Nazareth and host Stevens on Saturday, November 1.
