Damian Bziukiewicz (East Rutherford, NJ, Becton Regional) scored with eight minutes remaining on each side of the halftime horn helping Montclair State, ranked 21st by D3soccer.com, to a 3-1 victory over Manhattanville on Wednesday evening.
Sophomore
Mike Olla (Bloomfield, NJ, St. Benedict's Prep) also had a goal as the Red Hawks ran their winning streak to six games, upping its record to 10-3 on the season.
Olla gave Montclair State a 1-0 lead at the 16:43 mark, knocking a shot into the upper right corner for his third goal of the season. The lead would be short-lived as the Valiants' Jesper Hjalm scored less than three minutes later knotting the game at 1-1.
Bziukiewicz gave Montclair the lead for good with 7:18 to go in the first half heading in a corner kick by junior
Lucas Terci (Union, NJ, Union). He then added an insurance goal for the Red Hawks 8:46 into the second half in almost similar fashion heading in a feed from Olla that began with another corner kick from Terci.
Sophomore goalkeeper
Michael Gonzalez (Kenilworth, NJ, Union Catholic), the NJAC Defensive Player of the Week, made five saves for MSU, which outshot Manhattanville, 21-13. The Red Hawks also held the edge in corner kicks, 9-7.
Montclair State returns to action on Saturday, October 11 when it hosts Rowan University at MSU Soccer Park in an NJAC matchup beginning at 6:00 pm.
