Kaila Fasano (Westwood, NJ, Westwood) collected both goals as No. 10/12 Montclair State stretched its winning streak to 11 games with a 2-0 victory over Vassar College at MSU Soccer Park on Wednesday evening.
Fasano posted the fifth multi-goal game of her career helping the Red Hawks improve to 11-1 overall while knocking off the Brewers (5-4-2) for the fourth straight season and sixth time in nine all-time meetings.
Montclair State, which registered its 11
th consecutive shutout, did not allow a shot by Vassar in the contest yet found itself in a scoreless tie at halftime.
In the second half, the Red Hawks nearly put one in the back of the net however a shot by
Martina Landeka (Westfield, NJ, Westfield) clanged off the crossbar. MSU would get to two attempts that went high and another that was stopped by Brewer's netminder Emma Nichols before finally breaking through on Fasano's first goal, a shot from the top of the box into the left side of the goal at 56:28.
The senior, who surpassed the 80-point mark for her career, added to the lead 10 minutes later with her eighth goal of the season.
Catherine Zysk (Ho-Ho-Kus, NJ, Northern Highlands) played a ball to the feet of Fasano who then turned around a defender before unleashing a shot inside the far post for the 2-0 Montclair State advantage.
Goalkeeper
Gina Policastro (East Brunswick, NJ, East Brunswick) earned her 39
th career shutout.
MSU is back in action on Saturday, October 11 with a road contest at Rowan University with kickoff in Glassboro scheduled for 6:00 pm.
