HAYLEY MERRILL collected 15 kills in two matches as Montclair State closed out its regular season falling to Nazareth and host Stevens in the New York Regional Challenge on Saturday.
The Red Hawks (23-10) fell to Nazareth in four sets (21-25, 25-21, 13-25, 14-25) before dropping a three-set match with the Ducks (19-25, 17-25, 11-25).
Merrill had 11 kills and six digs as Montclair took on Nazareth for the first time since the opening round of the 2007 NCAA Division III Tournament also at Stevens.
MELISSA TERPSTRA and Courtney Lepore had five kills apiece with
COURTNEY MATLOCK chipping in with three kills.
Setter
ANGELA CAMPO had 19 assists and 11 digs while
SAMANTHA SZURA led Montclair State with 14 digs. Terpstra had eight digs with LePore totaling five blocks.
MADISON MAUTE had three blocks.
Teprstra led Montclair State with six kills in the loss to Stevens and also had two digs and three total blocks. Merrill had four kills while LePore and
ALLYSSA ANGEL collected three kills each. Campo posted 20 assists and seven digs. Szura and
ERIKA GERNER had nine digs apiece.
Montclair, which has set a single-season mark for victories, now turns its attention to the 2014 New Jersey Athletic Conference Tournament. The Red Hawks will be the No. 5 seed and travel to Mahwah, NJ on Tuesday, November 4 to take on fourth-seeded Ramapo College. MSU will be looking to avenge a four-set loss to the Roadrunners back on September 30.
