Conlon's Nine-Point Effort Helps Women's Lacrosse Remain Unbeaten as Red Hawks Beat Thiel, 16-5

Red Hawks Off to 3-0 Start for Third Time in Program History

Montclair, NJ – Junior attack Tierney Conlon (Caldwell, NJ, Caldwell) totaled nine points on four goals and five assists as Montclair State improved to 3-0 on the season with a 16-5 victory over Thiel College on Wednesday afternoon.

Senior Kelly Schoneveld (Denville, NJ, Morris Knolls) and freshman Aviana Paraggio (Sewell, NJ, Washington Township) each had three goals for the Red Hawks, who are off to a 3-0 start for the second straight season and just the third time in program history. Montclair opened the 2004 campaign with three consecutive victories.

The Red Hawks jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first 2:25 of the contest as Kara Crampton (Kinnelon, NJ, Kinnelon) scored 70 seconds into the contest with Schoneveld and Jenna Bussiere (Dayton, NJ, South Brunswick) each scoring twice. Bussiere scored again with 25:02 remaining and after a goal by the Tomcats (0-3), Conlon netted two of the next three MSU scores for a 7-1 advantage with 11:54 to go in the opening period.

Sophomore Beth Snider (Pittsburgh, PA / Shaler Area) got a goal back for Thiel off a free position attempt with just under eight minutes to play cutting the deficit to 7-2 but Montclair capped off the half scoring twice, including one by Paraggio with two seconds remaining for a 9-3 lead at the break.

Montclair State then put the game away with the first six goals of the half, two each by Conlon and Paraggio with freshman Francesca Verrone (Flanders, NJ, Mount Olive) recording the final as MSU led 15-3 with 14:25 left.

Schoneveld had two goals for MSU while Bussiere, who had team-best three ground balls in the victory, also picked up two assists. Bussiere also had two draws with Paraggio and Kasey Maguire (Marlton, NJ, Cherokee) each posting two. Sophomore goalkeeper Alexandra Tepper (Flanders, NJ, Mount Olive) finished with six saves for the Red Hawks.

Sharr Martin (San Diego, CA / The Preuss School) had two goals for Thiel, which was outshot in the game 37-17. Goalkeeper Abby Spriggs (Westminster, MD / Westminster) had 11 saves for the Tomcats with Spriggs and Cassy Mahdit (Odenton, MD / Arundel) each forcing a pair of turnovers.
