Montclair, NJ – Junior left fielder Colin McCarthy (Westport, CT / Staples) went 3-for-5 and drove in three runs as Johns Hopkins University knocked off Montclair State 8-5 at a blustery Yogi Berra Stadium on Wednesday evening.
Senior first baseman Richie Carbone (New York, NY / Poly Prep) drove in a pair of runs for the Blue Jays (20-13).

Rich Burner (Tinton Falls, NJ, Monmouth Regional) had two RBI apiece for Montclair State (16-15), which fell for just the second time in its last 10 games.
McCarthy and Carbone each drove in a run in the first inning giving Johns Hopkins a 2-0 lead. Montclair State quickly answered as
Connor Abreu (Piscataway, NJ, Piscataway) led off the bottom of the inning with a single. He would steal second and third before coming home on Martini's sacrifice fly.
Nicholas Martins (Linden, NJ, Linden) later added an RBI single and Burner delivered two more with a base hit giving MSU a 4-2 lead.
The Blue Jays tied the game the next inning on a two-run triple by McCarthy and added two more in the fourth to take the lead for good. Mike Denlinger (Colts Neck, NJ / Colts Neck) had a sacrifice fly and Conor Reynolds (Baltimore, MD / Loyola) scored on an error making the score 6-2.
Carbone brought home the seventh run in the seventh with an RBI single and later scored on a wild pitch for an 8-4 Hopkins advantage.
Martini's second sac fly in the eighth brought the Red Hawks within 8-5. Montclair threatened in the ninth putting two runners on with one out however junior righthander Justin
Drechel (Springfield, VA / Hayfield Secondary School), who went the final 1 2/3 innings, was able to record the final two outs for his second save of the year.
Sam Einhorn (Woodstock, NY / Kingston) got the win in relief allowing two hits and striking out three in 3 2/3 scoreless. Einhorn (1-0) walked two. Freshman righthander
Donald Cusick (Wayne, NJ, Wayne Valley) took the loss falling to 1-1.
Montclair now turns its attention to the New Jersey Athletic Conference race as the Red Hawks head to William Paterson on Thursday, April 24 for a 3:30 pm matchup with the Pioneers. MSU, currently in fourth place in the conference standings at 9-5, will host WPU on Friday, April 25 before facing New Jersey City in a doubleheader at home on Saturday, April 26.
