Montclair, NJ – Senior midfielder
Kelly Schoneveld (Denville, NJ, Morris Knolls) scored six times as Montclair State fended off Kean University in an 11-9 New Jersey Athletic Conference victory on Tuesday evening.
Junior midfielder
Jenna Bussiere (Dayton, NJ, South Brunswick) collected a pair of goals for the unbeaten Red Hawks, who improved to 12-0 overall, 2-0 in the league. Senior midfielder Carly Seidel (Winslow Township, NJ / Winslow Township) had three goals for the Cougars (6-5, 0-2 NJAC), who dropped their second straight contest.
Scoreless through the first 13 minutes of the contest, MSU scored five times over the next six minutes for a 5-0 lead. Freshman
Aviana Paraggio (Sewell, NJ, Washington Township) scored the first goal with 17:07 left and Schoneveld added another less than a minute later before Bussiere scored with 12:10 left for a 3-0 advantage. Schoneveld 18 seconds later and added another with 11:06 to play for the five-goal margin.
Kean answered with three consecutive scores. Seidel put the Cougars on the board and goals by Meghan Schneck (Hamilton, NJ / Hamilton West) and Jordan Blanda (Neptune, NJ / Neptune) 13 seconds apart pulled Kean within 5-3 with 7:33 left.
Tierney Conlon (Caldwell, NJ, Caldwell) stopped the run with an unassisted goal however Ciara Mastrodomenico (Blairstown, NJ / North Warren) and Julie Knodt (Mount Laurel, NJ / Lenape) each scored for the Cougars as the MSU lead was trimmed to 6-5 with 3:13 to go before halftime. Montclair got the final two goals of the half as Bussiere scored on power play marker and Schoneveld netted her fourth with 91 seconds left in the period.
In the second half, Blanda opened the score for Kean with a man-up goal however Schoneveld consecutive goals, the latter coming with 20:26 left making the score 10-6. Kean made one last run scoring the next three times, two by Seidel including a goal with 9:09 left that brought Kean within 10-9.
Kean would get the ensuing draw and had a chance to tie the game however Montclair's
Meredith King (Caldwell, NJ, James Caldwell) forced a turnover giving the ball back to the Red Hawks who then gave the ball right back to the Cougars as Knodt intercepted a clearing pass. King would force another turnover with 6:49 left and Montclair used the possession to widen its lead as

Kasey Maguire (Marlton, NJ, Cherokee) goal a goal with 5:10 left giving MSU an 11-9 lead.
Freshman
Francesca Verrone (Flanders, NJ, Mount Olive) got the draw control and the Red Hawks never relinquished possession the rest of the way.
Schoneveld and Conlon had three draws apiece for MSU, which outshot Kean 19-18 in the game. Erika Hernandez (Galloway, NJ / Absegami) and Blanda had four draws apiece for the Cougars, who got four saves from goalkeeper Daniella Wagenti (Wayne, NJ / Wayne Valley).
Montclair State returns to action on Saturday, April 12 with a road NJAC contest at Rowan University beginning at 1:00 pm.
