Volleyball Win Streak Snapped as Red Hawks Fall at Richard Stockton in NJAC Opener

Ospreys Extend Conference Winning Streak

Galloway, NJ – Richard Stockton (9-2, 1-0 NJAC) ran their win streak in NJAC play to 43 consecutive matches with a 3-0 (25-15, 25-16, 25-20) victory over Montclair State (9-3, 0-1 NJAC) on Tuesday night. The Ospreys used a balanced attack to secure the victory in the conference opener for both teams. The victory by the Ospreys snapped the Red Hawks' five-match winning streak.

In the opening set, Stockton ran out to a 17-6 lead on their way to a convincing 25-15 win. Freshman setter Jessica Ciandella (Beachwood/Roselle Catholic) dished seven of her match-high 22 assists to lead the Ospreys. Lindsay Schuele (Sparta/Sparta) was the recipient of those helpers, spiking five kills.

Another Stockton freshman took control in the second set as Kara Glynn (Severna Park, MD/Severna Park) started by serving six of the first seven points to give Stockton a 7-1 lead. The Red Hawks pulled within three points on several occasions but could not get any closer. Glynn added five kills to help Stockton to a 25-16 second set win.

Montclair State took an early lead in the final set, but an 8-1 Stockton run to make it 12-9 gave the Ospreys the lead they would not relinquish as they held on for the 25-20 final set advantage and the win. Macy Schwartz (Mahwah/Mahwah) paced the Ospreys with four kills in the last frame.

Schuele and Glynn shared offensive honors with nine kills each for Stockton, with Schuele serving four aces and Glynn adding another three. Ali Giordano (Waldwick/Waldwick) chipped in with six spikes and Emily Grube (Orwigsburg, PA/Nativity BVM) tallied 14 digs. Idi Uffen (Williamstown/Williamstown) recorded six blocks at the net while teammates Schwartz and Giordano registered three blocks each.

The Red Hawks were led by Courtney Matlock (Jackson, NJ, Jackson Memorial) with eight kills while Angela Campo (Washington Township, NJ, Westwood) and Kimberly Matlock (Jackson, NJ, Jackson Memorial) dished 12 and 10 assists respectively. Lily Scanzillo (Upper Saddle River, NJ, Northern Highlands) had eight digs for Montclair State.

Montclair State returns to action on Saturday, September 20 with a tri-match at St. Joseph's College in Long Island, NY. MSU will face City College of New York at 2:00 pm with a 4:00 pm match scheduled against the host Eagles.
