Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Women's Soccer Continues Winning Ways as Red Hawks Blank St. Joseph's (LI), 5-0

Greco Two Goals, Madison Two Assists for MSU

Montclair, NJ – Senior forward Melanie Greco (Bridgewater, NJ, Bridgewater-Raritan) scored a pair of goals while freshman Tyler Madison (Parsippany, NJ, Parsippany Hills) collected two assists as Montclair State extended its winning streak to seven with a 5-0 victory over St. Joseph's (LI) on Wednesday evening.

Senior Francesca Gibson (Cape May, NJ, Lower Cape May Regional) added a goal an assist as the Red Hawks (7-1) posted their seventh straight shutout as it outshot the Eagles (1-6-1), 27-2.

MSU wasted little time getting on the board as it found the back of the net less than three minutes into the game. Junior Martina Landeka (Westfield, NJ, Westfield) played a ball over the top to sophomore Jennie Hornstra (Clifton, NJ, Clifton) for a breakaway with the latter recording her third of the year at 2:54.

That's the way the game stood until the 28th minute when the Red Hawks scored twice in a span of 2:28. Greco got the first with a one-timer off a ground ball cross from Madison at 27:02 and Gibson finished off another Madison feed at 29:30 for a 3-0 Montclair State lead at the break.

Senior Kaila Fasano (Westwood, NJ, Westwood) notched her team-leading sixth goal to open the second half with Greco recording her second goal of the game with 1:25 to go for the final margin.

Senior goalkeeper Gina Policastro (East Brunswick, NJ, East Brunswick) made two saves for the Red Hawks.

Montclair State returns to action on Saturday, September 27 when it hosts Richard Stockton at MSU Soccer Park. Kickoff of the NJAC contest is set for 6:00 pm and the Red Hawks will also honor the 10th anniversary of their 2004 NJAC Championship and NCAA Tournament squad.
