Williamsport, PA – The Montclair State volleyball team split its first two matches at the Lycoming Tip-Off Tournament on Friday evening. The Red Hawks (13-4) dropped a four-set decision to host Lycoming before bouncing back with a hard-fought three-set win over Penn College.
Montclair took the opening set against Lycoming 25-17 before the Warriors came back to take the next three 25-22, 25-19 and 25-23.
Sophomore
Courtney Matlock (Jackson, NJ, Jackson Memorial) collected 16 kills along with five digs, four aces, five digs and three blocks. Freshman
Hayley Merrill (West Windsor, NJ, West Windsor-Plainsboro South) hit double digits in Kills with 10 while
Leah Stine (Bridgewater, NJ, Bridgewater-Raritan) and
Courtney LePore (Deer Park, NY, Deer Park) each had five. Senior
Angela Campo (Washington Township, NJ, Westwood) recorded 35 assists and seven digs. Libero
Lily Scanzillo (Upper Saddle River, NJ, Northern Highlands) led the Red Hawks with 14 digs along with three aces.
Melissa Terpstra (Midland Park, NJ, Midland Park) and
Erika Gerner (Sparta, NJ, Sparta) posted eight digs apiece.
Matlock had 16 kills as Montclair took the first set with Penn College 25-13 before pulling out a 26-24 win in the second set and a 28-26 triumph in the third and final set. Merrill added five kills with Gerner chipping in with three kills and 15 digs. Sophomore
Kimberly Matlock (Jackson, NJ, Jackson Memorial) had 21 assists, five digs and two aces while Campo contributed 15 assists.
Montclair State continues action in the Lycoming Tip-Off on Saturday, September 27 as it faces St. Mary's (MD) and Misericordia University at 10:00 am and 12:00 pm, respectively.
