Montclair, NJ – Sophomore outside hitter
Courtney Matlock (Jackson, NJ, Jackson Memorial) posted 27 kills and earned a spot on the All-Tournament Team as Montclair State split its final two matches at the Lycoming Tip-Off Tournament on Saturday afternoon.
Freshman libero
Lily Scanzillo (Upper Saddle River, NJ, Northern Highlands) registered 46 digs as the Red Hawks (14-5) dropped a four-set match with St. Mary's College of Maryland before bouncing back with a come-from-behind, five-set victory against Misericordia University.
Matlock had 12 kills in the match against St. Mary's as the Red Hawks split the first two sets with the Eagles losing 25-15 and winning 25-20. St. Mary's closed out the match with wins in the final two sets, 25-14 and 25-18, respectively.
Sophomore
Courtney LePore (Deer Park, NY, Deer Park) added eight kills while Melissa Terpstra recorded six kills along with 14 digs. Matlock added eight digs and a block with setter
Angela Campo (Washington Township, NJ, Westwood) posting a double-double of 30 assists and 11 digs. Scanzillo had a team-best 17 digs with sophomore
Samantha Szura (Hewitt, NJ, Ramapo) tallying 11 digs.
Facing Misericordia for the first time in seven years, Montclair again split the first two sets dropping the first 25-22 before posting a 26-24 win in the second to even the match. A 25-12 loss in the third set put MSU behind however it rebounded with a 25-15 victory in the fourth set before taking the decisive fifth set 15-11.
Matlock led the way with 15 kills and finished with 59 in the two matches.
Rebecca Matasker (Washington Township, NJ, Westwood) added nine kills with freshman
Madison Maute (Sparta, NJ, Sparta) chipping in with eight along with seven total blocks (three solo). Campo had a solid all-around match with six kills, 39 assists, two aces, six digs and three blocks.
Hayley Merrill (West Windsor, NJ, West Windsor-Plainsboro South) recorded six kills with Terpstra going for five kills along with 22 digs. Scanzillo had 29 with Szura registering 12 for the Red Hawks.
The Red Hawks are back in action on Tuesday, September 30 traveling to Mahwah, NJ for a New Jersey Athletic Conference matchup with the Roadrunners of Ramapo College at the Bradley Center beginning at 7:00 pm.
