Montclair, NJ – Junior forward
Martina Landeka (Westfield, NJ, Westfield) and freshman
Tyler Madison (Parsippany, NJ, Parsippany Hills) each registered a goal as 10th-ranked Montclair State held Brooklyn College without a shot in a 2-0 win at MSU Soccer Park on Wednesday evening.
Sophomore
Jennie Hornstra (Clifton, NJ, Clifton) assisted on both goals as the Red Hawks (2-1) won their second straight contest in the first meeting between the teams.
MSU dominated the scoresheet racking up 26 shots while amassing almost as many corner kicks (24) in the process. Montclair also possessed the ball for a large majority of the match and put Brooklyn College under tremendous pressure for the 90 minutes. Freshman goalkeeper Rebecca Harmata (Janesville, WI / George S. Parker) also came up with six saves which helped keep the margin to two goals.
One of those goals came at the 14:09 mark when Landeka made it two straight games with a goal and third consecutive contest with at least one points. Hornstra moved into the middle of the field with the ball before dropping a pass off to Landeka 25 yards out . The junior turned and fired a shot into the upper right corner of the goal for her second of the year and a 1-0 Red Hawk lead.
That's the way the game stood until two minutes into the second half when Hornstra fed a ball down right side to Madison, who maneuvered her way in from the wing to within eight yards before rifling a shot that clipped off the hands of Harmata and into the back of the net for her first career tally.
Senior goalkeeper
Gina Policastro (East Brunswick, NJ, East Brunswick) earned her second consecutive and 32nd career shutout.
Montclair State is off until Saturday, September 6 when it travels to Hackettstown, NJ to face Centenary College at 3:30 pm.
