Francesca Gibson (Cape May, NJ, Lower Cape May Regional) recorded her first career hat trick leading four players with multiple-point games as 10th-ranked Montclair State won its third straight contest with a 7-0 win at Centenary College on Saturday.
Kaila Fasano (Westwood, NJ, Westwood) and
Melanie Greco (Bridgewater, NJ, Bridgewater-Raritan) had a goal and assist apiece as the Red Hawks (3-1), who were once again dominant on the defense end allowing just one shot in the game. Montclair has surrendered just two shots over its last three contests, all shutout victories.
The Red Hawks outshot the Cyclones 27-1 however it wasn't until the latter stages of the first when MSU broke a scoreless tie as Gibson knocked in a feed from Greco for her first goal of the season. Montclair upped the lead to 2-0 just before the end of the period as freshman
Daniella Greco (Bridgewater, NJ, Bridgewater-Raritan) got her first career goal off an assist from
Brittany Cooper (Succasunna, NJ, Roxbury).
MSU broke the game open in the second half with five goals during a 12-minute span from the 68th to 80th minute. Gibson scored the first two goals 42 seconds apart off assists from
Janae Geonnetti (Mount Laurel, NJ, Paul VI) and Fasano respectively with the latter coming at 68:27 boosting the lead to 4-0.
Fasano added her third of the year 96 seconds later for a five-goal advantage before Montclair closed out the scoring on goals by Melanie Greco and
Stefanie Gomes (Kearny, NJ, Kearny), who connected 44 seconds apart in the 80th minute.
Erin Sullivan (Bridgewater, NJ, Bridgewatwer-Raritan) picked up the assists on both goals.
Senior goalkeeper
Gina Policastro (East Brunswick, NJ, East Brunswick) earned the shutout, her 33
rd career blanking.
Montclair State returns to action on Friday, September 12 when it travels to Hoboken, NJ to face Stevens at 7:00 pm.
