Montclair, NJ - The Montclair State football team will look to keep its winning ways going as the Red Hawks return home playing host to NJAC newcomer Christopher Newport University. It will be the first meeting between the teams.
Montclair has won two straight in convincing fashion outscoing its oppnents 109-7 the last two games. That includes a 45-0 win at Southern Virginia last weeked as the Red Hawks registered their first shutout in over three years. Senior
BILL SHIMKO picked off a pair of passes returning one for a touchdown while freshman wide receiver
JULANEE PRINCE hauled in a pair of touchdown passes. Quarterback
RYAN DAVIES threw for 282 yards and the two touchdowns. Meanwhile the Red Hawk defense was dominating again allowing just 176 yards of offense. Linebacker
MICHAEL TENPENNY collected seven tackles, including the 100th of his career.
MICHAEL STRADFORD and
JOSH BROWN had five tackles apiece for MSU.
RAHMEIN HERRON added a 79-yard interception return while
CRAIG PITTS and
CHRIS PALMA posted a sack apiece.
The Captains, who have dropped four straight, are making their second consecutive trip to New Jersey heading up the Garden State Parkway a few more exits this week. CNU fell at Kean 35-10 as the Cougars scored three touchdowns in the second half. Senior quarterback Tyler Quigley, who again shared time with Arsaiah Robinson, finished the day 21 of 40 throwing the ball for 224 yards. Senior receiver Joe Jardine caught seven passes for 67 yards. Senior linebacker Mic Edwards led the CNU defense with 10 tackles and an interception.
