Montclair, NJ - Senior
JANAE GEONNETTI scored once and assisted on another goal as Montclair State won its third straight blanking Ramapo 4-0 at MSU Soccer Park on Wednesday evening.
KENDEL BERNARDINI and
SHAWNA GRABOWSKI each had a goal as the Red Hawks (12-2-2) jumped ahead of Rowan University for second place in the NJAC standings with the win. Montclair is currently 5-1-2 in the NJAC at 17 points, three ahead of Rowan which was idle on Wednesday. MSU also improved to 20-0-4 all-time against Ramapo, including its sixth straight win over the Roadrunners.
On a night in which MSU honored its eight seniors prior to the game it was those honorees who figured in the first three goals of the game which came in a span of 15:36 during the opening period. Grabowski put Montclair State on the board at 26:45 with her fourth goal of the season finishing off a feed from
MARTINA LANDEKA.
Geonnetti extended the lead to two goals 74 seconds later burying a penalty kick for her second of the season. She then had the helper on Bernardini's goal at 32:21 giving the Red Hawks the 3-0 lead.
Sophomore
TYLER MADISON capped the scoring with 18:05 left scoring her team-leading ninth goal of the season.
ERINNE FINLAYSON and senior
AMANDA VIETRI combined on the shutout making two and one save, respectively. It was the 10th shutout of the season for the Red Hawks.
Montclair State returns to action on Saturday, October 24 with a big non-conference matchup as the Red Hawks travel to Swarthmore College for a 3:00 pm matchup with the unbeaten (12-0-1) and 13th-ranked Garnet.
