Rochester, NY – The Montclair State volleyball team split its first two matches at the New York Regional Challenge held at Nazareth College on Friday.
The Red Hawks (17-11) downed host Nazareth in four sets before falling to RIT in three. MSU will play twice more on Saturday taking on New York University for the second time this season at 10:30 am followed by a 2:30 pm contest with University of Rochester.
Junior
COURTNEY MATLOCK led MSU with 16 kills in the win over Nazareth as Montclair lost the first set 25-23 before taking the next three 25-23, 25-22, 25-18. Montclair, which hit .390 in the second set got 11 kills from freshman
NATALIA MAJKUT and eight from
NIKKI SENOPOULOS.
Freshman
ASHLEY GRIFFITH had a double-double of 22 assists and 16 digs while Kim Matlock added 16 assists. Libero
DANIELLE OLCESE led the way with 25 digs with Senepoulos adding 15 along with a pair of blocks. Madison Mature totaled five blocks.
Senopoulos totaled eight kills and seven digs in the loss to RIT. Montclair dropped three close sets falling 26-24, 25-23 and 25-19.
Maute added five kills and two blocks with
REBECCA MATASKER getting four kills. Griffith amassed 22 assists along with eight digs while Olcese had nine digs to once again lead MSU.
