Montclair, NJ - Senior forward Neville Joseph (Newark, NJ / West Side) led all scorers with 18 points, as New Jersey City University knocked off the Montclair State University men's basketball team 83-58 in NJAC action on Saturday afternoon. 
 
LAVRONE GREEN (Teaneck, NJ / Teaneck) led the Red Hawks with 14 points, while SHAUN RUSSELL (Brooklyn, NY / Willingboro) came off the bench to score 13 in the losing effort. Montclair, which was playing its third game in four days and fifth in the last eight days, falls to 8-16 overall, 3-14 in conference play, while the Gothic Knights improved to 11-12 and 9-8 in the NJAC.
 
NJCU never trailed in the contest, but only led by five heading into halftime. The Red Hawks were able to keep the contest close by connecting on over 46 percent of their shots from the field and holding the Gothic Knights to a shade over 40 percent. Khalid Muhammad (Orange, NJ / Orange) finished the opening stanza with 10 points and six rebounds, while Russell chipped in eight for the Red Hawks.
 
The Red Hawks opened the scoring in the second half with jumper by DEVYN RANSOM (Jersey City, NJ / Marist) to trim the lead to three, but that was as close as the Red Hawks would come. In the drastic change from the first half, the Gothic Knights shot over percent from the field while the Red Hawks connected on just 36 percent of their attempts. After a pair of free throws by Joseph, Green connected from behind the arc to trim the deficit to 63-53 with 7:19 to go in the contest. The Gothic Knights closed the game out on a 20-5 run, outscoring the Red Hawks in the second half 48-28.
 
In addition to Joseph, who also finished with 11 boards, the Gothic Knights received double-digit points from Muhammad and Drew Marley (Maplewood, NJ / Columbia).

Montclair State, which got eight points from senior KAZIM JONES (Newark, NJ / Newark Tech) and seven points from ERICK LOFTEN-HARRIS (Union, NJ / Union), was outrebounded 46-26 over the course of the contest.
 
Montclair closes out the 2014-15 campaign on Wednesday, February 18 as they travel to Galloway Township, NJ to battle Richard Stockton 8:00 pm. The Gothic Knights are on the road Monday February 16^th as they travel to take on Valley Forge.
