Montclair, NJ – Senior midfielder
MICHAEL SCHRECK scored a man-up goal with 2:15 left in the second overtime lifting No. 15 Montclair State to a 9-8 victory over Dickinson at Sprague Field on Saturday afternoon.
Shreck had two goals as did Mangan and
CONNOR CUNNINGHAM as MSU (2-0) posted its second consecutive 9-8 victory. Montclair defeated RPI by the identical score last Sunday.
Montclair fell behind 3-0 in the first period before Mangan got the Red Hawks on the board with 4:58 left on a man-up tally. The Red Devils (1-2) scored with four ticks to play for a 4-1 lead at the end of one period.
Mangan scored early in the second to cut the lead to two but after a lengthy period of time without a goal, Dickinson got that back as Chris Menard scored with 3:22 left making the score 5-3. Again the Red Hawks battled back as goals by
MICHAEL JEVIC and Cunningham, the latter with 52 seconds pulled MSU within 5-4 at the half.
Dickinson opened the third with a goal right off the faceoff however Schreck and
ALEX HAHN each scored tying the game at 6-6 with 8:03 left. Dickinson's George Mazarakis put the Red Devils back in front but an unassisted tally by
JAMES CLARKEwith 42 seconds left in the period knotted the contest at 7-7 heading into the final period.
The fourth went nearly 11 minutes with a goal until Menard scored with 3:19 left making the score 8-7 in favor of the Red Devils. Montclair tied the game for the third time as Mangan found Cunningham with 43 seconds left forcing the extra lacrosse.
Dickinson goalkeeper Nick Baxter made a save against
ZACH SCHRECK with 1:29 left keeping the game going and Montclair's
LUCAS JONES came up with a huge stop against Austin Dodson at the overtime horn sending the game in to a second OT.
Montclair would get its man-advantage with 3:08 to play in the second overtime. After missing with two shots wide,
MICHAEL SCHRECK found the back of the net for the game-winning goal.
Mangan and
MICHAEL SCHRECK each had two assists for MSU. Goalkeeper
LUCAS JONES stopped 13 shots. Blaise Mantineo won eight faceoffs and registered seven ground balls.
MICHAEL SCHRECK had four ground balls and forced three turnovers while
LEN BELLEZZA caused two turnovers and added three ground balls.
The Red Hawks are back in action on Wednesday, March 4 as they hit the road to Poughkeepsie, NY. Montclair will take on Vassar College at 7:00 pm in a contest that has been moved to Marist College.
