KASEY MAGUIRE scored 42 seconds into overtime which turned out to be the difference as Montclair State opened its 2015 season with a 9-8 win over Stevens as Sprague Field on Saturday afternoon.

FRANCESCA VERRONE each had two for the Red Hawks (1-0), who registered their third straight win against the Ducks (0-1)
Montclair fell behind 2-0 the first nine minutes of the contest but countered with four straight goals on free-position attempts for a 4-2 lead with 13:38 remaining. Senior
JENNA BUSSIERE put the Red Hawks on the board and sophomore
AVIANA PARAGGIO followed with 19:47 left tying the score. Maguire netted the first of her two putting MSU in front with Conlon's goal capping the run.
Mariel Haubrich stopped the MSU run scoring with 10:29 left as the Red Hawks carried a 4-3 lead into the break.
Maguire opened the second half with her second finishing off a feed from Conlon for a 5-3 advantage however the Ducks reeled off three straight taking a 6-5 lead with 21:53 to play. Verrone scored four minutes later tying the contest for the second time and Conlon's goal made the score 7-6 in favor of MSU with 8:17 left.
Verrone's second goal with 3:24 to go gave the Red Hawks an 8-6 lead however Caitlyn Hughes set up one goal and then scored with 53 seconds knotting the contest at 8-8.
Montclair quickly grabbed the lead in the extra period as Bussiere won the draw. A foul on Stevens put Maguire on the line for the free position attempt and she capitalized for the go-ahead scored with 5:18 remaining.
Goalkeeper
ALEXANDRA TEPPER stopped seven shots for MSU, which was outshot in the game 23-20. Tepper led MSU with four ground balls while Maguire collected three ground balls and three draws. Bussiere had a game-high six draws with
MEREDITH KING forcing three turnovers.
MSU goes right back to work on Monday, March 2 hosting Drew University at 4:00 pm. The game is a reschedule from February 21 when the two teams played half a game before snow forced the postponement of the contest. Montclair State held a 7-5 lead at the time however the game will be replayed from the beginning.
