Women's Lacrosse Edges Muhlenberg in Back-and-Forth Contest, 11-10

Maguire Gets Game-Winner with 3:47 Left

Allentown, PA -  Junior KASEY MAGUIRE scored off an assist from TIERNEY CONLON with 3:47 remaining which turned out to be the difference in the game at Montclair State edged Muhlenberg 11-10 at Scotty Wood Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Conlon and JENNA BUSSIERE combined for 10 points as the Red Hawks (2-1) captured the back-and-forth contest in which neither team was separated by more than a goal.

Sophomore AVIANA PARAGGIO gave Montclair the early lead 98 seconds into the contest and Bussiere, who finished with three goals and two assists made it 2-1 with 22:31 left in the opening half. Muhlenberg scored the next two goals grabbing the lead but Bussiere connected with Francesca Veronne for a 3-3 tie with 18:51 remaining.

After the Mules () went back in front, Conlon set up Alex DiPiero and then scored two minutes later pushing Montclair into the lead 5-4 with 6:34 to play before halftime. Muhlenberg's Stephanie Umbach would tie the game as the two headed into the break deadlocked.

Maguire's first goal to open the half made the score 6-5 however Umbach and Stephanie D'Ascoli got the next two for the Mules. The teams then traded the next four goals before markers from Paraggio and Conlon put the Red Hawks in front 10-9 with 8:44 to play. Umbach tied the game for the 10th time with 6:26 to go.

MSU would get a chance to go in front with 4:12 left but Conlon's free-position attempt clanged off the post. Fortunately for Montclair State VANESSA REY was there to scoop up the ground ball allowing MSU to maintain possession. The Red Hawks capitalized on the second chance as Conlon found Maguire for the go-ahead goal with 3:47 remaining.

Conlon came up big again winning the ensuing draw, her sixth of the contest, and the Red Hawks ran off all but one second of the final three-plus minutes.

Conlon recorded two goals and three assists with Maguire getting three ground balls. Goalkeepers REBECCA MYERS and ALEXANDRA TEPPER finished with two and four saves respectively.

Montclair State is back in action quickly as the Red Hawks host Amherst College at 4:00 pm on Monday, March 16.
