KEITH MURPHY drove in three runs as Montclair State closed out its Snowbird Classic appearance with an 11-4 victory over Lancaster Bible on Sunday evening.
Junior lefthander
MICHAEL MACCHIA struck out 10 in 7 1/3 innings as the Red Hawks (3-6) posted their second straight victory.
Macchia (1-0) struggled in the first inning allowing three runs before settling in the rest of the way.
LOUIS PIMPINELLA and
ANTHONY DEBLASIO struck out four in recording the final five outs of the contest.
After the Chargers (0-1) took the 3-0 in the first, Montclair State quickly countered with six in the bottom half. MSU scored six runs one just one hit in the inning.
RYAN LONG scored on a misplayed ball hit by Murphy and
PETER PENA walked with the bases loaded making the score 3-2.
JACOB REEDER was hit by a pitch which tied the game and MSU took the lead on a wild pitch that scored
PHILIP SCOTT. Pena came home on a fielder's choice with Long singling in the infield for the final run.
Lancaster Bible got a run back in the second however got those runs back and one more in the third.
HECTOR GONZALEZ tripled in the first run and Murphy, who has 16 RBI in the last eight games, doubled home two more extending the Red Hawks' advantage to 9-4.
Scott and
KEVIN ALONSO accounted for the final two MSU runs in the fifth.
Murphy and Scott had two hits apiece for the Red Hawks.
Montclair State will now return home and is scheduled to play at Stevens in a doubleheader on Thursday, March 19 at 2:00 pm in Hoboken, NJ.
