Newburgh, NY – Junior attack
BRETT MANGAN scored five times and added three assists with
MICHAEL JEVIC added four goals and three assists as Montclair State powered past Mount St. Mary, 25-7 in a Skyline Conference matchup on Saturday.
SHANE RAYMOND had four goals and an assist while
MICHAEL SCHRECK tallied two goals and four assists helping the Red Hawks (7-5 overall, 2-0 Skyline) snap a two-game losing streak.
Raymond gave MSU a 1-0 lead midway through the first period before the Knights tied the game less than a minute later on a power-play goal. Jevic had a hand in the next two setting up Schreck's man-up tally and then scoring 33 seconds later off a feed from Mangan for a 3-1 advantage with 2:45 left. MSU led 3-2 after one period.
Mangan's goal 1:58 into the second pushed the lead to 4-2 however two goals by Mount St. Mary, the latter by Danny Kugler, tied the score at 4-4 with 10:47 remaining. Schreck put the Red Hawks back in front with an unassisted tally and Mangan's goal 59 seconds later made the score 6-4 with 8:14 to go. Kugler scored again for the Knights but MSU closed the half with the final four goals for a 10-5 lead at the break.
Raymond had two in the run and then opened the scoring in the third as Montclair went up 11-5 with 12:56 to play in the third. Mt. St. Mary's Dylan De Meo ended the run however the Red Hawks began another five goal run to widen the lead to 16-6. Mangan had three in the spurt, including the first two.
Kugler put an end to the run with an unassisted goal with 3:11 left but goals from Jevic and
DAVE DROZJOCK closed out the period as MSU led 18-7. The Red Hawks scored seven times in the fourth with
COREY CARLSON getting two while
LIAM CHRISTENSEN picked up two assists.
LUCAS JONES stopped seven shots through three-plus periods before giving way to
BOBBY GRAZIANO who mad three saves in the final 14:29 of the game.
RYAN TOTIN won six faceoffs and collected five ground balls for MSU.
Montclair State returns to action on Wednesday, April 15 as it hosts Farmingdale State at Sprague Field in a 7:00 pm faceoff.
