Six-Goal First Quarter Propels Men's Lacrosse Past Farmingdale State for Second Straight Win, 13-4

Schreck Scores Four, Cunningham, Mangan Three Goals Each

Montclair, NJ – Junior midfielder ZACH SCHRECK scored four times including two during a six-goal first quarter as Montclair State rode the fast start to a 13-4 victory over Farmingdale State in Skyline Conference action at Sprague Field on Wednesday.

Juniors BRETT MANGAN and CONNOR CUNNINGHAM each registered a hat trick as the Red Hawks (8-5) won their second straight while remaining unbeaten in the Skyline at 3-0. Michael Cegielski had two goals and an assist for the Rams, who dropped to 6-5 overall, 1-2 in the league.

Schreck opened the scoring 54 seconds into the contest with an unassisted tally with Cunningham finding the back of the net 37 seconds later for a 2-0 lead with 13:29 left. Cunningham then connected with MICHAEL SCHRECK a little over a minute later for a three-goal lead and STEVE DANYLUK added a goal at the midpoint giving MSU a 4-0 lead. ZACH SCHRECK scored his second  6:19 to play before Mangan closed out the period with the first of  three goals.

Montclair pushed the lead to 9-0 in the second recording three goals in a 1:31 span. Mangan scored with 7:35 to play and struck again 37 seconds later before ZACH SCHRECK registered his hat trick. Farmingdale would break the run with 4:49 as Cegielski assisted on a goal by Tyler Rifice with the two reversing roles 93 seconds later making the score 9-2. Derrick Sherrod made it three straight for the Rams as the MSU lead was cut to six at halftime.

Cunningham and Cegielski traded goals in the first minute of the third quarter before Danyluk finished off a feed from Cunningham with 9:43 remaining making the score 11-4. ZACH SCHRECK collected his fourth goal with 6:20 to play as MSU led 12-4.

Cunningham got the final goal of the game in the fourth on a man-up tally 2:35 into the final quarter.

LUCAS JONES and BOBBY GRAZIANO made five and two saves, respectively while Blasé Mantineo went 12-of-19 on faceoffs with seven ground balls. Jones had four ground balls with RYAN TOTIN scooping up five. Danyluk, COLTON SCHENCK and ROBERT SNOW forced two turnovers apiece.

Montclair State returns to action on Saturday, April 18 when it travels to Throggs Neck, NY to face Maritime College at 1:00 pm.
