Women's Lacrosse Win Streak Snapped as Red Hawks Fall at No. 8 TCNJ, 13-7

Bussiere Three Goals, Assist for Montclair

Ewing, NJ – A fast start by eighth-ranked The College of New Jersey proved to be too much for Montclair State to overcome as the Red Hawks had their six-game winning streak snapped with a 13-7 loss at Lions Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Senior JENNA BUSSIERE scored three goals and picked up an assist as the Red Hawks (8-5, 4-1 NJAC) had their six-game winning streak snapped while suffering its first NJAC loss of the season. The loss was the first for Montclair State since March 22 in a 12-5 loss at Fredonia.

TCNJ's Cortney Natalicchio, who finishes with five goals in the game for the Lions (11-3, 4-0 NJAC), hand a hand three as the hosts jumped out to a 5-0 lead 6:17 into the game. FRANCESCA VERRONE snapped the run with an unassisted tally near the midpoint of the half however Kendal Borup, Natalicchio and Amanda Muller countered as New Jersey moved out to an 8-1 lead with two minutes remaining. Bussiere netted the first of her two goals with 22 seconds later as Montclair trailed 8-2 at halftime.

Natalicchio opened the scoring in the second half which was matched by Bussiere's second making the score 9-3. Borup and Erin Healy added to for TCNJ as the lead went to eight goals. Montclair State would score two of the next three as Bussiere tallied once before setting up KASEY MAGUIRE's goal with 13:33 to goal which got Montclair State within 12-5.

TIERNEY CONLON scored with MSU a player down with 8:42 to play however Borup answered for the Lions restoring the lead to 13-6 with four minutes left. AMANDA BEAL got the final goal for Montclair State as she finished off a feed from Conlon.

The assist by Conlon was the 233 of her career leaving her one shy of Cathy Homiek's school record of 234 from 2001-04. Conlon also moved within seven of the all-time NCAA Division III record of 240 held by Buffalo State's Kendyl Clarkson who had 240 from 2009-12. Conlon also moved into fifth place on the all-time Division III scoring list with 417 points.

ALEXANDRA TEPPER and REBECCA MYERS had three and four saves, respectively for MSU while Bussier added two draws and two ground balls.

Montclair State returns to action on Tuesday, April 21 as it takes on Elmira College at Sprague Field with first draw of the contest scheduled for 7:00 pm.
