CHRISTOPHER REYNOLDS each belted homers as Montclair State scored the final 10 runs in a 10-4 victory over City College of New York at Yogi Berra Stadium on Tuesday afternoon.
The game was called due to rain in the bottom of the eighth inning.
The Beavers (7-5) loaded the bases with no one out in each of the first two innings and came away with two runs both times for the 4-0 advantage. Adrian Pena got the first RBI on a fielder's choice and Jacob Sonenshine followed with a bunt base hit for another run in the top of the first. Pena would deliver again in the second with a two-run single.
Montclair would tie the game in the third. Olivera led off the inning with a towering fly ball down the left field that just went foul. He did it again on the next pitch only this time the ball stayed fair as MSU got on the board. It was Olivera's second round-tripper of the year. Two outs later, the Red Hawks put runners on first and second bringing up Reynolds who crushed the first pitch over the left field wall for his second home run of the season and a 4-4 tie.
MSU would take the lead in the fifth as
TYLER AMANDOS singled to lead off the inning.
MATT LONG doubled to right field with Amandos scoring after the throw into second base skipped away.
COREY MARTIN followed with an RBI single for a 6-4 MSU lead.
Schulman collected an RBI single in the sixth and MSU put the game away in the seventh with three runs.
MIKE TOLERICO doubled home a run and
KEITH MURPHY scored on a wild pitch before
RICH BURNER lofted a sacrifice fly for the final run.
Freshman righthander
ANTHONY DEBLASIO picked up the victory in relief as he pitched 5 2/3 scoreless innings. DeBlasio (2-2) struck out four and walked one giving up a pair of hits.
MATT LONG finished 3-for-5 while Reynolds and Tolerico had two hits apiece to pace the 12-hit Red Hawk attack.
Montclair State returns to action on Thursday, April 9 as it hosts William Paterson University at 3:30 pm in the first game of a home-and-home set. The two will meet at Jeff Albies Field in Wayne on Friday, April 10 at the same time.
