Montclair, NJ – Union College's Richard Gregory and Charlie Ross each scored four goals as the 11
th-ranked Dutchmen used seven-goal first quarter en route to a 16-10 win over Montclair State at Sprague Field on Wednesday evening.
Peter Richardson had a goal and three assists as Union (9-2) scored the first seven goals of the game and used that margin to post its third straight victory.
Juniors
BRETT MANGAN and
ZACH SCHRECK posted two goals and one assist each for the Red Hawks, who dropped their second straight contest as Montclair fell to 6-5 on the year.
The Duchtmen wasted little time getting on the board as Richardson found Ross for the game's first goal 1:34 into the contest. Kyle Mason added an unassisted tally with 12:21 to play and three goals in a 55-second span at the midpoint of the period gave Union a 5-0 lead. Richard Gregory, Ross and Adam Rosenthal each had goal in the run.
Gregory added his second and a man-up goal by Ross with 3:43 left capped the game-opening run by the Dutchmen.
MICHAEL SCHRECK ended the run with a power-play goal with 55 seconds left and a goal by
SHANE RAYMOND 51 seconds into the second quarter got MSU within 7-2.
However, Union put together a five-goal run over a five-minute span taking a 12-2 advantage. Ross scored the first two with Gregory added two as well, the second coming with 7:04 to play, just eight seconds after Kyle Mason found the back of the net.
The Dutchmen led 13-3 at halftime but Montclair State closed the gap in the third. Mangan and
ZACH SCHRECK scored early which was answered by Gregory and Tom Stanton as Union led 15-5. Montclair closed out the period with three goals in the final two minutes.
GRIFFIN WOODFINLEVINE,
CONNOR CUNNINGHAM and
RYAN TOTIN each scored as the Red Hawks got within 15-8.
Connor Hall was dominating on faceoffs for Union as he won 18-of-22 along with nine ground balls. Stefan Basile stopped five shots for the Dutchmen.
LUCAS JONES had eight saves for Montclair State, which got four ground balls and two caused turnovers from
LEN BELLEZZA.
MSU returns to action on Saturday, April 11 as it heads to Newburgh, NY for a 1:00 pm Skyline Conference matchup with the Blue Knights of Mount St. Mary.
