Union, NJ – The Montclair State baseball teams was held to five hits by Rutgers-Camden's Billy Jackson as the Red Hawks' season came to an end with a 7-0 loss to the Scarlet Raptors in the NJAC Tournament at Kean University's Jim Hynes Stadium on Friday.
MATT LONG was 1-for-3 with a walk for MSU, finished the year at 17-18 with the loss.
The Scarlet Raptors got all the runs they needed in the top of the first inning as Bobby Romano tripled home Brett Tenuto and Jon Theckston for the 2-0 lead. Theckston added to the lead in the second with an RBI single back through the middle of the infield and drove in two more in the fourth with a single for a 5-0 Rutgers-Camden lead.
A fielding error in the fifth allowed the next Raptor run to cross the plate before Tenuto provided the final run with an RBI single in the same inning.
The rest was left up to Jackson, who upped his record to 5-1 on the year. He allowed five singles, struck out three and walked one. Junior lefthander
MICHAEL MACCHIA took the loss for
Montclair State as he finished the year 3-1. Macchia allowed five runs (four earned) and seven hits with three strikeouts and two walks. Senior
ANTHONY ALTIERI tossed two scoreless innings in relief in his final appearance for the Red Hawks.
