First-Half Goals Propel No. 11 Field Hockey Past Misericordia, 2-1

Johnston, Roeloffs Score as MSU Bounces Back From 1st Loss

Dallas, PA – After suffering its first loss of the season, the 11th-ranked Montclair State field hockey team bounced back with a 2-1 victory at Misericordia University on Saturday afternoon.

MAURA JOHNSTON and MEGAN ROELOFFS each scored in the first half as the Red Hawks improved to 4-1 on the year with the victory.

MSU got the only five shots of the first half and capitalized on two of them. Johnston got the first goal at the 8:46 mark as she finished off a feed from JACINTA SANTOS. The Red Hawks would add another just over 10 minutes later on Roeloffs' first goal of the year.

Montclair would get two more chances to extend their lead however Cougars' goalkeeper Angela Pasquini came up with a pair of saves as MSU led by two at the break.
In the second half, the Red Hawks kept the pressure up logging seven penalty corners in the first 12 minutes however it could not come up with a goal as one attempt was blocked while Pasquini came up with a stop against KAITLYN STRUSS.

Withstanding the early half pressure, Misericordia was able to trim the lead on its first shot of game. Kailey Vogl scored with 22 minutes left with Lindsay Hischak picking up the assist as the Cougars made it a 2-1 contest.

Montclair State immediately responded with a penalty corner two minutes later and got two chances but Pasquini denied both KELLY KRAMER and ALEXIS AMBROSINO on successive attempts. Back the other way came Misericordia with a penalty corner of its own. Colby Eldridge got off a shot but REBECCA BRATTOLE was there for the save.

The hosts would not get another opportunity over the final 11 minutes.

Montclair finished with a 13-2 advantage in shots and also out-cornered Misericordia, 19-10. Pasquini finished with six saves while Brattole made the one for her fourth win of the year.

With five straight road games to open the year, Montclair State will finally play its home opener on Friday, September 18 hosting Cortland at 6:00 pm.
