Sullivan's Penalty Kick in 2OT Sends Women's Soccer Past Union, 2-1

Madison Scores Goal as Red Hawks Win Third Straight

Schenectady, NY – ERIN SULLIVAN's successful penalty kick at the 1:27 mark of second overtime lifted Montclair State to a 2-1 nonconference win over Union Friday night at College Park Field. The Dutchwomen, playing in their fourth straight overtime contest, fell to 0-1-3 on the season.

The penalty shot was awarded after a hand ball was called on a Union defender in the box.  Sullivan then placed a ball out of reach of goaltender Erica Matteo, who finished with seven saves. MOLLY BARROW stopped six shots for Montclair (3-0-1), which captured its third consecutive victory.

Union forced overtime when Sydney Keane knotted the game at 1-1, knocking in a loose ball in the crease off Breana Derella's corner kick in the 66th minute.  It was Keane's second goal of the season.

Montclair State opened scoring at the 16:19 mark as TYLER MADISON one-timed a shot from 10 yards out on assists from MALLORI HIGBEE and KENDEL BERNARDINI.

The Red Hawks doubled up on total shots (20-10), although shots on goal were much closer, 9-7 in favor of MSU.

Montclair is back in action on Sunday, September 13 hosting thr Yellowjackets of Rochester as MSU Soccer Park beginning at 1:00 pm.
