Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

No. 12/13 Men's Soccer Storms Back in Second Half to Beat Stockton, 3-1

Olla Scores Two as Red Hawks Tally Three Times

Montclair, NJ – Junior forward MIKE OLLA scored a pair of goals as No. 12/13 Montclair State turned a one-goal deficit at halftime in a 3-1 victory over Stockton University at MSU Soccer Park on Saturday evening.

Junior forward AARON ROSE had a goal as the Red Hawks (9-1, 2-0 NJAC) posted their third straight victory overall while upping its winning streak against the Ospreys to four and unbeaten streak to six. MSU leads the all-time series 28-17-6.

Junior Tyler Mills had the lone goal for the Ospreys (7-3, 1-1 NJAC), who have dropped two in a row following a four-match winning streak.
Stockton jumped out to a 1-0 lead five minutes into the contest. Clevon McPherson collected a ball near the top left side of the box and manged to flip a pass on the ground over to the opposite side where Mills managed to stay onside and went virtually 1-on-1 with keeper MIKE SAALFRANK before flicking a shot inside the left post for his third of the season.

The Ospreys nearly made it a two-goal advantage in the 12th minute as Jared Ruff got ahead on a long feed and broke toward the goal on the left side. Saalfrank came out to challenge and smothered the would-be attempt keeping the contest a 1-0.

Stockton outshot the Red Hawks 8-6 in the opening 45 minutes and took the one-goal lead into the break.

In the second half, Montclair State struck quickly tying the game a 1-1 a little over four minutes into the period. Olla collected a ball along the right side of the box and spun around a defender giving him a clear look at the net. The junior then fired off a hard right-footed shot across and inside the left post for his sixth goal of the season.

Olla wasn't done as gave the Red Hawks the lead at 54:13 finishing off a feed from KYLE GOODWIN giving him his second multiple goal game of the season.  Stockton got a great chance to even the match shortly afterward but Chimaobi Ikwuagwu's shot from deep inside the box went high over the net.

Saalfrank would make a save against Joseph Dikmak in the 68th minute and Mike DeFeo's shot from close range in the 75th minute also went over the net. Rose provided an insurance goal at the 80:26 mark. Following a Stockton foul deep in the Montclair defensive end, JOE BORRAJO sent a long kick to the top of the box at the other end of the field where a streaking Rose was able to get by two defenders before tapping a shot past oncoming keeper Bobby Varga for the goal.

Saalfrank finished with three saves for Montclair State, which outshot Stockton 19-14 in the game and held a decided margin in corner kicks, 11-3. Varga had five saves for the Ospreys.

The Red Hawks return to action on Monday, September 28 when it hosts Brooklyn College at MSU Soccer Park beginning at 7:00 pm.
