No. 25 Women's Soccer Dominates in 5-0 Win at Vassar

Red Hawks Outshoot Brewers 16-2; Five Different Players Score

Poughkeepsie, NY - The Montclair State women's soccer team, ranked 25th in Division III, received goals from five different players as the Red Hawks dominated Vassar College in a 5-0 victory on Saturday at Gordon Field.

ASHLEY KOESTER, HEATHER SOOTKOOS, KIMBERLY MIGNONE, TYLER MADISON and STEFANIE GOMES all had goal as MSU (7-1-1) ran its unbeaten streak to eight games with the victory. Montclair State also registered its fourth consecutive shutout and fifth overall this season.

Koester gave the Red Hawks a 1-0 lead 11 minutes into the game. JANAE GEONNETTI served a ball on to the feet of Koester, who fired a shot from just out side the box into the lower right for her second goal of the season and a 1-0 Montclair State lead which went to two goals in the 28th minute as Sootkoos collected her first of the year off an assist by MARTINA LANDEKA.

MSU took the 2-0 lead into halftime but quickly doubled it early in the second half scoring twice in a span of 2:43. Mignone got the first on a penalty kick at 50:27 and Madison followed with her team-leading sixth goal off a pass from MALLORI HIGBEE with 36:50 to go in the second half. KENDEL BERNARDINI set up Gomes for the game's final goal with 6:05 remaining.

Meanwhile, Montclair State's defense shut down the Vassar holding the Brewers to just two shots in the game. MSU finished with 16 shots and had the edge in corner kicks, 6-2

ERINNE FINLAYSON registered the shutout, her third in as many starts this season.

The Red Hawks are back in action on Wednesday, September 30 when it makes the short nine-mile trip to Wayne, NJ to face local and NJAC rival William Paterson at 7:00 pm.
