Brooklyn, NY – Freshman ASHLEY KOESTER and sophomore TYLER MADISON scored before the midway point of the first half and those two goals held up as Montclair State picked up its second straight victory with a 2-1 win at Brooklyn College on Saturday.

ERIN SULLIVAN and SOPHIE CALVERLEY each had an assist as the Red Hawks held off late charge by the Bulldogs to improve to 2-1 in the early season.

Koester scored the first goal of her career giving Montclair a 1-0 lead at the 14:50 mark of the contest. Sullivan served up a corner kick that Koester headed past Rebecca Harmata for the contest's first score.

Madison extended the lead to two goals less than seven minutes later. Calverley flicked a pass into the middle of the box where Madison drilled the 15-yard shot into the back of the net for her second goal in as many games.

The 2-0 lead was good enough for Montclair until the 73^rd minute when the Bulldogs got their lone score off a penalty kick after the Red Hawks were called for a foul in the box. Shan Nakhid-Schuster converted the chance trimming MSU's lead to 2-1 with 26:47 remaining.

But that would be the only offense the rest of the way as the Red Hawk defense held Brooklyn College without a shot the rest of the way.

MOLLY BARROW had one saves for Montclair, which outshot the Bulldogs 17-5 in the contest.

Montclair is now off until Friday, September 11 when it travels to Schenectady, NY to face Union College at 4:30 pm.
