Mahwah, NJ – The Montclair State men's swimming and diving team wrapped up its most successful dual meet season in a decade on Saturday as the Red Hawks knocked off Ramapo College, 162-100 at the Bradley Center Pool.
The victory helped MSU, which won its final meets, finish the year 9-3 (2-2 NJAC), the first time Montclair has recorded nine wins in a dual meet season since 2005-06 when it went 9-4. The Red Hawk women fell to the Roadrunners 134.5 – 127.5 as it closed out the year at 7-4 (1-3 NJAC). The 16 combined victories are the most for Montclair State since the same season when it won 17.

KEVIN CLAUSS,
STEVEN ROTH and
HUNTER ROMANOWSKI got the Red Hawks going with a win in the 200 medley relay. The group posted a time of 1:39.21. Montclair followed that up with a 1-2-3 finish in the 1000 freestyle as
DAN KNEPPLE swam 10:29.09 with
FRANCIS PINO and
MITCHELL LAYNE coming in at 10:31.66 and 10:34.48, respectively.
Freshman
CHARLES COBBERTT (1:47.12) and Romanowski (1:47.89) claimed the top two spots in the 200 freestyle with
ANTHONY KALAFATIS (2.00.52) and
KEVIN HENNINGSEN (2:01.66) doing the same in the 200 butterfly. Cobbertt added a second win in the 50 freestyle with a time of 22.46 seconds and he and Romanowski switched placings in the 100 freestyle. Romanowski had a time of 49.06, out-touching Cobbertt (49.20) by .14 seconds.
Clauss took top honors in the 200 breaststroke (2:13.96) and Henningsen swam 54.26 seconds to take the 100 butterfly. Pino and Layne were 1-2 respectively in the 500 freestyle with times of 5:02.41 and 5:04.33 and the Red Hawks closed out the meet by winning the 400 freestyle relay. Cobbertt, Roth,
BRENDAN TURNER and Romanowski registered a time of 3:20.61.
Senior
SYDNEY STEIN led a 1-2-3 finish in the 1000 freestyle with a time of 11:39.89.
TORI HOLZBERG and
ASHLEY SINGEWALD were second and third respectively at 11:44.62 and 11:53.75.
KATHERINE LACAVA won the 200 butterfly in a time of 2:19.46 while
ERIN CANNON swam 2:13.95 to capture the 200 backstroke.
Stein and Frantz claimed the top two placings in the 500 freestyle with Stein going 5:27.53 and Frantz 5:33.12. Stein then teamed with
SAMANTHA DOWD,
ALYSON GAWIN and
COURTNEY MUNRO to win the 400 freestyle relay at 3:52.52.
Montclair State is now off until Friday, February 19 when it competes in the three-day 2016 Metropolitan Swimming and Diving Championships at Rutgers University's Sonny Werblin Center in Piscataway.
