KAITLYN STRUSS scored a pair of goals and collected the 100
th points of her career as No. 18 Montclair State handed No. 12 Muhlenberg College its first loss of the year, 4-2 on Wednesday evening.
KAILEY DALGAUER and
DANIELLE BUTRICO each had a goal as the Red Hawks improved to 10-4 on the season. Emily Boyle and Taylor Smith had goals for the Mules (11-1).
Struss gave Montclair State a 1-0 lead five minutes into the game as she banged in a feed from Dalgauer off a penalty corner. The two would combine on the next goal at 14:21. Dalgauer flipped a pass in front to Struss who wrapped a shot past the keeper for a two-goal MSU lead.
The goal, her 10
th of the season, gave Struss exactly 100 career points as she became the third player in program history to reach that mark. She joined Jennifer Tanis (137 from 2005-08) and Jennifer Tafro (120 from 2010-13) for the distinction.
Boyle got Muhlenberg on the board with 6:25 to play in the first half however that was answered with 33 ticks to go before halftime as Dalgauer knocked in a cross from Butrico as MSU led 3-1 at the break.
Butrico added the fourth MSU goal with 10:19 to play batting in a rebound. Smith got the final goal of the game with 5:51 left.
Katilin Maguire made six saves for MSU, which outshot the Mules 18-11 in the game.
Montclair State returns to action on Saturday, October 15 with a 1:00 pm matchup at Sprague Field against No. 20 Rowan University.
