Hoboken, NJ – The Montclair State volleyball team closed out its appearance in the Ducks Invitational on Saturday with a pair of losses as the Red Hawks fell to host Stevens and Springfield College in four and five sets, respectively.
The Red Hawks, who have lost four of their last five following a 12-match winning streak, are now 18-7 on the year.
Junior
HAYLEY MERRILL had 13 kills for MSU in the loss to Stevens as the Ducks posted the four-set win, 25-13, 25-9, 10-25, 25-11. She added seven digs while
NATALIA MAJKUT and
COURTNEY MATLOCK each had seven kills.
ASHLEY GRIFFITH registered a double-double of 27 assists and 13 digs while
MADISON MAUTE chipped in with four kills and a block.
DANIELLE OLCESE had 13 digs to match Griffith for team honors in that category.
Against Springfield, Montclair captured the first set 25-22 before the Pride bounced back with the next two 25-20 and 25-21. The Red Hawks forced a deciding set with a 25-20 win in No. 4 however Springfield (21-3) captured the final set 15-10.
Merrill put down 18 kills along with two blocks and three digs while Matlock had a double-double of 16 kills and 10 digs.
REBECCA MATASKER added eight kills while Maute recorded six. Griffith had 48 assists and 10 digs while Olcese topped all players with 35 digs.
APRIL DIANGELO served up six aces along with 10 digs.
CAITLIN AARTS had four aces.
Montclair State is back in action on Tuesday, October 18 with a 7:00 pm home match against Hunter College. It will be the Red Hawks' "Dig Pink" Charity game with proceeds from the event going toward the Sideout Foundation.
