Montclair, NJ – Freshman
RYELLE SANSONE scored a pair of goals as Montclair State shut out Rutgers-Newark, 4-0 on a cold, damp and rainy Saturday evening at MSU Soccer Park.
Senior
JENNIE HORNSTRA and sophomore
SOPHIE CALVERLEY each had a goal as the Red Hawks (12-3-1, 6-2) locked up third place in the NJAC standings with the win. MSU will host a first-round game in the conference tournament on Saturday, October 29.
Hornstra gave the Red Hawks the lead in the 21
st minute with her sixth goal of the season.
EMILY BEENDERS got the assist.
Sansone scored five minutes on each side of the half to extend the lead to 3-0. The first goal came with 4:12 remaining in the first half as she knocked in a pass from Hornstra. Beenders added her second assist of the evening setting up the third goal of the contest 5:18 into the second period.
Calverley capped the scoring three minutes later with her second tally of the year.
Sophomore
MOLLY BARROW picked up the shut out, her fourth of the season stopping three shots.
Montclair will step out of conference for its next contest. The Red Hawks host John Jay College on Monday, October 24 at MSU Soccer Park. Kickoff of Senior Day is 7:00 pm with MSU honoring its five seniors – Hornstra,
